Aromatherapy Using Essential Oils in a Diffuser

Some scents are invigorating and get us moving. There are other scents that bring a calm mind and serene feeling. Even some that boost immunity and still others that bring relief to breathing ailments. No matter the scent, the act of using essential oils in a diffuser falls into the “aromatherapy” category.

Using essential oils sourced from plants, herbs and flowers dates back to more than 3,500 years before Jesus Christ’s birth. In those times oils were burned for incense or mixed with carrier oils for medicinal purposes. In our age we can experience aromatherapy using essential oils in a diffuser. A diffuser is similar to a humidifier but isn’t quite the same. There was a time when parents added Vicks Vapor Rub into the humidifiers to help relieve nighttime breathing issues in sick children. We don’t recommend doing this anymore and advancements have brought better ways to get the same effects with natural products.

Just like the above example, essential oils are added to distilled water and the mist along with the aroma are emitted into the air via the diffuser. The blends that can be added are only limited by the imagination. Think of Frankincense and Myrrh, one is sweet while the other is a morse woodsy aroma. By blending them together you get a Magi approved mixture. Not only do essential oils smell good, they also have healing properties to them and can affect the “mood” of the room.

Think of a fresh linen smell or an ocean breeze and notice how that smell brings a fresh clean feeling to you. Aromatherapy is happening around us everyday without us being fully aware of it. Using essential oils in a diffuser allows you to change the atmosphere of your environment just by choosing a blend. Using calming blends is a common as we all deal with stresses life throws at us. Energy boosts or scents that fire our senses up are also popular to use. Using essential oils in a diffuser is also a great way to set seasonal smells in motion.
