Do you like bananas? Do you wind up wasting them because they ripen too fast and spoil before you get to eat them?

In this blog we will discuss 5 ways to keep your bananas from ripening too fast.

  1. Purchase Green Bananas

The first thing you want to do is be sure to purchase bananas that are slightly under ripe. Under ripe bananas have yellow in the middle but also have green on the stems and end of the banana.

Make sure ones you buy don’t have any bruises or spots on them.

Do not buy yellow ones unless you plan on eating them right away. Yellow bananas get over ripe really quickly.

  2. Storing Bananas

You should always store you under ripe bananas at room temperature. If you put them in the refrigerator when they are green the skin will turn black but the inside will not ripen.

You can also wrap the ends of your bananas with plastic wrap to keep them from ripening for another week..

  3. Hang Your Bananas

Hang them on a banana hook. This will keep your bananas from getting bruised while they ripen.
  4. Don’t Store Bananas with other Fruit or Veggies

Do not store you bananas with other fruit or veggies because they will make them ripen faster. The reason for this is the fruit and veggies give off a hormone ethylene that cause the bananas to ripen.
  5. Put Ripe Bananas in the Refrigerator

Put ripe bananas in the refrigerator to keep them from getting over ripe. The skins may turn brown or black but the inside will not ripen.

I got these tips from wikiHow.
