Discipline And Consistency In Your Home Business

Discipline and consistency are your greatest assets when working from home. Having a home business can add freedom and flexibility to your lifestyle. Freedom and flexibility are usually the main reasons people start up home businesses beyond money expectations. If discipline and consistency are missing in your work efforts the money expectations disappoint you. Let’s talk about how discipline and consistency can help you raise your bottom line and bring you closer to the success you seek.

Discipline And Consistency Assessing Your Goals

There are steps to meeting your goals. You’ll want to outline your goals with a clear path of how to achieve them. You can start at the goal and work backwards if that works better for you. Write them down and ask yourself “what needs to happen to achieve this”? Make a list of steps or tasks that will produce that result. Next you’ll want to determine how much time you have to give to each step or task. Be realistic and give yourself some wiggle room in some areas. Life happens and you should expect it to happen to you too. Does this amount of time exceed the amount of time you think you can contribute to your business?

Lets say your task list looks like it’ll take two hours a day to complete but you only have an hour a day to give. You must still try to achieve your goals. Sometimes the time crunch will make us feel overwhelmed or rushed. Acknowledge that feeling and do it anyhow. It’s like a workout. The first time you practice a new exercise you’re going to feel it. discipline and consistencyYou’ll find if you discipline yourself to do it anyhow, that with consistency, you’ll get faster and more thorough in your actions.  So while the first workout took more than the two hours estimated, the tenth workout only takes thirty minutes. See where I’m going with this? It gets easier and you get better at it.

This same process can be used to determine if what you’re consistently doing is even working for you. Let’s say you’ve been consistently posting 3-5 times a day on social media but aren’t getting the leads you thought you would. Rather than stop posting because you think it isn’t working assess what you hope to achieve, and how that fits into your audience. Sometimes it can be a scenario where you’re trying to sell ice cubes to Eskimo’s. Assess your audience needs and meet them. You have to have an active plan of action to get the results you desire. It can come from simply changing things up.

Discipline and Consistency Aren’t Optional

Discipline and consistency also builds trust with others. People will see you showing up for your business, carrying out your tasks, and achieving your goals. They will see your successes and they will WANT those same things for themselves. A lot of times people will do a little bit, just enough, or do things sporadically to get a little return. These types aren’t displaying long term trustworthy habits. Being disciplined and consistent in your business dealings shows you are dedicated and committed to your success. And that’s exactly what you’ll achieve by practicing them daily.
