An Answer to My Prayers
From the time I was a small child I had always wanted to get married and have children. Now here I was 24 and single, it didn’t look like I would ever meet mister right. I dated quite a few guys over the years and I even got engaged one time. But in the end I realized that I didn’t love him, I was in love with the idea of being in love.
I went though a period of depression because I really felt alone. One night when I was praying to God I prayed “God please send me someone who is perfect for me. He doesn’t have to be perfect. Just let him be perfect for me.” Then I thanked God in advance for the man he had for me. After I thanked God I left it in His hands and I felt the depression lift. I stopped worrying about it and went on with my life working and spending time with my family and my friends.
About a month after I said the prayer, my sister Louise invited me to a party. The party was at the Union hall, it was a celebration of all the members birthdays for the month of May. Louises birthday is in May so I told her I would come. Louise was very involved in the parties and events that went on at the Union hall, so when I arrived around 11:45 p.m. she was busy in the kitchen. I didn’t really know many people there. My friend Vicky was there so I went to sit with her and her friends. After around 15 minutes or so Vicky said she was leaving. So there I was all by myself again.
I was tired because I had worked the 11-10 shift at the grocery store. I left work went and took and shower changed then went to the party. It had been a long day. I went to find my sister to tell her I was going to leave because I didn’t know anyone and she was busy. She said ” Wait I want you to meet someone.” I thought to myself “this is weird”, and I told her Ok I would wait. I followed her to a doorway where 2 guys were standing. She introduced me to Richard and Dave. Then she said stay here and talk to them for a minute I’ll be right back. Now Richard was the cute one. He had a beard and I loved guys with beards. Dave on the other had was drunk and he started hanging on me right away wanted to kiss me…What a turn off. I looked at Richard and said “You want to go play some pool?” There was a pool table in the next room. He said “sure” so we left Dave standing there. Richard rescued me from Dave.
We played a game of pool, I neglected to tell him that I spent many afternoons at the DAV with my Dad growing up and he played pool all the time, so I learned early how to play. Yes I beat him! After we played pool we went to the food table and got something to eat, then found a table to sit at and we started talking. Richard was so easy to talk to, hours went by, it felt like minutes. There was something about him that made me feel like I had known him my whole life. Richard asked me if I wanted to go for a ride to the beach, so I said ok sure. I thought it would be ok because Louise introduced us and she wouldn’t stear me wrong.
We got into his car and drove to the beach by the pier. It was a beautiful night. The moon was shinning and it lit up the water. We took our shoes off and walked down the beach. At one point he took my hand. This felt nice. We came to a bench and he asked me if I wanted to sit so I did. We sat there on the beach talking and looking at the moon for hours. It felt so right it felt so natural to be there with him. He was so easy to talk to and then he kissed me right there in the moonlight. He was nervous he trembled. I kissed him back and at that moment I knew that God had heard my prayers.
We got back to the Union hall about 6 a.m. He asked me for my phone number and I gave it to him. We kissed and said good night. I was so tired yet so excited my head was spinning. I got into my bed and thanked God for answering my prayers. I fell fast asleep. The phone rang around 3:00 p.m. and woke me up. It was Richard calling…and so began a new life with my Richard.
An answer to my prayers
Richard and I were married 3 years later on February 11, 1984. We will be married 30 years next February. I am so blessed that God sent Richard to me. He is my best friend and although he’s not perfect…He’s perfect for me!
Richard and I have 5 wonderful children, Allen, Danielle , Michelle, William and Noelle. We also have 2 beautiful grandaughters Leah and Melody. We are blessed!
For those of you reading this that are lonely, ask God to send you someone who is perfect for you. Thank Him in advance. God does answer prayers!
