My Granddaughters are Home

My granddaughters are back home after a trip to Pennsylvania to see their other Grandfather. He was in intensive care so my Son and Daughter-in-law and my granddaughters drove there. I am happy to report that Papa Joe is doing better.

My son and his family live with my husband and me. Leah will be 4 in December and Melody is 19 months. They were away for 3 weeks, which is the longest they have been away from me since they moved in 3 years ago.

While they were gone, the house seemed so empty. I missed them and all the daily interaction I get with them. I got a taste of what it would be like if they did not live with us. I am glad they do. I love how Melody wants me all the time. I love reading books to them. I love sitting on the couch and just loving on them. I get lots of hugs and kisses daily which is a benefit of them being here.

I also get to take them with me to church every Sunday and Wednesday. I think it’s important for them to go to church. I know they look forward to going. They have made friends there and they get lots of love from everyone at my church.

One of the challenges to having them live here is sometimes they want me over their Mom and Dad. I have to be very careful not to step over my bounds as a grandparent and let my son and daughter-in-law be the parent, because that is what they are. Sometimes my granddaughters will come running to me when they are disciplined. I have to be sure to back up their parents and sometimes it is hard. Sometimes I feel they are too strict, overreact or do not like the way they approach something. I have to remember I am grandma and bite my tongue.

I am glad the girls are home again. Sure it gets crazy at times. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
