Distractions In Business Shut Them Down

We’re surrounded by distractions in business and this can prevent us from reaching our success goals. It’s important to notice what distractions in business are affecting us the most and to shut them down. Here’s a few tips to do away with distractions in business.

Two Types Of Distractions In Business

The two types of distractions in business and life are internal distractions and external distractions. The internal distractions are your thoughts, beliefs, and feelings. The things we hold as truth and how we talk to ourselves. The external distractions are things like the phone ringing, the dog barking, or the people in our lives. Sometimes the external and internal distractions can start playing a ping pong game that eventually spirals out of control. Here’s a few examples to identify some common distractions and tips on how to shut them down.

Internal Distractions

  • Negative Self Talk
  • Doubt or Indecisiveness
  • Lack of Self Belief
  • Procrastination

Internal distractions will differ from person to person as we are each unique in how we emotionally absorb our experiences. One thing to notice is positive V.S. negative. If your thoughts are negative they promote negative feelings and this combination can bog us down in multiple ways. Start by replacing negative self talk with positive affirmations or reminders. Sometimes we have to be our own cheerleader. Instead of telling yourself you’re not good enough remind yourself just how capable you are. Feeding yourself positive things will help adjust your mindset and the results will show up in everything you do. You control your thoughts and feelings, just flip the switch.

External DistractionsDistractions in Business

  • Naysayers
  • Unsupportive Family Members
  • Shopping and Entertainment (TV, Movies, Malls, Games)
  • Everything Outside of You

External distractions are just that, everything outside of you. It can be other peoples words or actions creating thoughts in our heads or dark cloud feelings. Or, it could be these people are so stuck in their own negative mindsets they don’t even realize they’re doing it. If you have naysayers or unsupportive family members you can try sitting down and talking to them. You could explain how important your business is to you or how you need them to respect your time boundaries. Let them know that you need their support and that it’s the best way they can help you achieve your goals. Open understanding while communicating your needs in a positive way can help others turn their views around.

We all have a desire to enjoy life to it’s fullest, that’s natural. We must learn to stay within our means and set healthy boundaries for ourselves as well. When we can say no and mean it, to ourselves, we are building our own boundaries. If we don’t have them the T.V. and media will have us running around buying up phones, shoes, games, and devices we don’t need and can’t afford. These patterns can put people into debt and stretch their budget if they don’t have one. Setting good boundaries for yourself is the best way to shut down external distractions. You control who, what, and why in your life and this is where you should focus your attention.
